Manhattan LSAT Teachers - Mike Kim

Mike Kim realized early on that he had a knack for standardized exams, and began teaching the SAT while still in high school. Sure, Mike's love of logic puzzles and advanced math concepts ensured that he would have a packed social calendar, but what he loved doing most during his teenage years was sitting alone and making up stories in his head. After winning a writing competition for high school students, Mike moved on to Amherst College for his undergraduate studies. And though he thoroughly enjoyed his collegiate experience, his only lament was that, as an English major, he did not get to take even one multiple choice exam in all four of his years.

He did watch a lot of movies, though, and after college he went off to Hollywood. For four years, Mike worked at a management company that represented A-list screenwriters. As a lit manager Mike became an expert at speaking quickly and saying nothing of significance, and came to realize that what he really wanted was to be the person on the other side of the conversation - he wanted to be the writer. Ironically, the rigors of representing screenwriters made it impossible for him to devote any time to becoming one himself.

So, when fortune (the friend of a friend) called, Michael decided to return to teaching by becoming, of all things, a home schooling instructor for the Osbournes during the filming of their reality series. He has been splitting his energy between writing and teaching ever since, though he is more than happy to have traded in celebrity tutoring for his first love - standardized exams. By day, he passionately pleads with producers and executives to put his stories onto film, and by night, he passionately pleads with students to become active and aggressive learners.

With his natural flair for writing and drama, it's no surprise that Mike has co-created a sophisticated curriculum and well-written set of strategy guides. He is currently director of curriculum development and instructor training. In his spare time, he enjoys riding his bike on the beach with his wife, and getting little kids to try to spell his name backwards.

Feedback from Mike's Recent Students

Mike really took the time to help me tackle difficult questions by spending an extra 45 mins after class session to go through some questions. It goes to show that MLSAT instructors truly want to see their students exceed on this exam. Don't worry guys, when I become a top lawyer your legal fees are on me! :)"--Live Online Student (Live Online Spring B 2011)

He was always an email away. It was clear he cared about the success of the students, which is a great quality in any instructor."—Live Online Student(Live Online Spring B 2011)

I enjoy when Mike makes analogous arguments for LR questions that help break the ice. If the class doesn't seem to grasp the material in the LSAT format, he is able to keep an analogy close to the structure, but yet put it into terms that make the argument a bit more clear to see.)"--LSAT Study Group, Spring 2011
