Manhattan LSAT Teachers - Demetri Blaisdell
A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, Demetri couldn’t be talked in to leaving the Golden State to go to college. He studied political science and Arabic (more on this later) at UCLA, but learned far more about the world and himself while spending a year studying abroad in Cairo.
In his younger days, Demetri used to think double majors were for over achievers. But after he finished his year studying in Cairo, his academic adviser pushed him to pursue a second degree in Arabic. Upon graduating with two degrees but only a partial notion of what to do with his life, he moved to Damascus, Syria. Propelled by a love of the language and culture, Demetri spent more than a year in Syria studying Arabic and teaching English.
His stint in Damascus showed him that he had a knack for teaching, but he had to find somewhere in the States to teach that wouldn’t cramp his style. With the perhaps slightly sick realization that he had actually enjoyed the LSAT, he set his sights on teaching for the best LSAT test prep company in the country (note: he was not contractually obligated to say that).
Demetri is still lamenting the loss of his UCLA public school street cred as he studies in his first year at Columbia Law School. The bad news is that his first year classes take up a significant chunk of his time. The good news is his students don’t have to worry about being talked out of going to law school by yet another person in their lives.
On an unrelated note, if you can help Demetri understand why people keep saying he's from somewhere called "Cali," he would love to talk to you.
I really LOVED his teaching style. Demetri has a real knack for giving just the right amount of personalized teaching attention to each student and then instantly knows how to switch to teaching the entire class broader concepts in a timely manner. Demetri also makes everyone feel really welcomed and comfortable in class. He is so nice and extremely patient, he really made coming to class a pleasure every weekend.--Student, NYC Fall A 2011
By the end of class (we) were dragging but his energy was amazing and kept us alert! Demetri is also really gifted at making sure that no one felt stupid for not understanding class material. Even when the answer was staring at me in the face, Demetri would very patiently (and non-condescendingly) guide me to the right answer.--Student, NYC Fall A 2011
